Benefits of Landscape Bed Weed Control

Landscape beds will often have a mix of woody shrubs and trees along with perennial and annual flowers mixed in to provide “seasonal color”.  Your landscape beds are a key part of most landscapes and can be quite beautiful. Weeds that start to grow, become established, and invade are a serious issue.  They not only detract from the overall appearance, but they also compete with desirable landscape plants for water, sunlight, and room to grow.  Most people have seen a beautiful, weed-free, well-maintained landscape bed.  This takes work and diligence to maintain.  On the other hand, if weeds are not controlled, managed, or pulled on a regular basis, they can overtake the beds and plants and the result is less than desirable, to say the least.  Regular maintenance, mulching, and a weed control program are key parts of enhancing and maintaining these valuable landscape beds. This is where the ExperiGreen Landscape Bed Weed Control program comes in.  Through a regular, scheduled series of applications; we can control, minimize and prevent further weed invasions in the bed areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does the Program Work?

The first application will include a pre-emergent treatment to the entire bed area: ExperiGreen uses an exclusive combination of 2 professional pre-emergent products.  The combination of the 2 pre-emergent products acts synergistically together to prevent both grassy and broadleaf weeds. Very few, if any competitors use 2 different products for weed prevention.  This means superior weed prevention and control over the course of a growing season.

Follow Up on Applications: ExperiGreen will come out at regular intervals of about 5-7 weeks to inspect the landscape beds and treat for any weed escapes.  Weeds generally germinate from seed, though many regrow from root or other plant parts also, depending on the type of weed.  Weed seeds are blown in on the wind, spread by birds and other animals, or even from the lawnmower blowing the seeds into the bed areas.  The main problem is that weeds germinate at different times of the growing season and to deliver the weed-free landscape beds that a customer expects from our program, we need to visit and treat weeds 3 or 4 additional times during the growing season. If and when weeds are found on these follow-up visits, they will be sprayed and controlled, with the added bonus of additional pre-emergent materials applied again to the same area.

Is The Landscape Bed Weed Control Program Safe For My Plants?

Yes, applications are performed only by trained and certified ExperiGreen employees.  The pre-emergent weed prevention materials can safely be sprayed over the top and in and around existing ornamental plants. This broadcast application then works where you need it most; preventing more weeds! If there are existing weeds, ExperiGreen will also use a post-emergent control product (with the added pre-emergent bonus) to eliminate and prevent further weed growth.  This application is directed only at the existing weed(s) and not at your ornamental plants.

How Is The Landscape Bed Weed Control Program Priced?

Pricing is based on the square footage of your landscape beds.  ExperiGreen will measure the square footage of the beds, then will quote a price.  The average home has about 500-1,000 square feet of landscape beds.  The average price for this size bed area is in the range of $50.  Depending on what part of the country you live in, that would mean an average annual cost of around $200 -$250 for most residential homes.

What Will The Landscape Bed Weed Control Program Do Or Not Do?

Are There Any Limitations Or Exclusions?

The program includes only chemical prevention of future weed problems and control of existing weeds. Hand pulling or manual weeding of weeds is not included in the program.  If a landscape bed has significant existing weeds, ExperiGreen will treat them.  Once treated with the product(s), existing weeds should start to curl and twist within 3-4 days, sometimes sooner depending on how actively the weeds are growing and weather conditions.  Once the weeds die completely (in about 10-14 days) the homeowner can remove the dead weeds or just let them wither and eventually they will fade and disappear.

Important Note* Existing perennial weeds, like Canadian thistle or other thistles or other tough-to-control weeds that are growing in and among ground covers or coming up through juniper plantings (for example) are a unique challenge and require a visit to the property and a consultation with an ExperiGreen expert.

What About Mulching?  Does It Help Control Weeds?

Mulching is an important part of caring for your valuable landscape plant beds.  ExperiGreen highly recommends mulching on an annual basis.  Most common mulch materials include shredded hardwood bark mulches, pine or conifer bark nuggets or shredded bark, shredded cedar bark, and pine straw (needles).  A fresh application of one of the mulch materials to a depth of approximately 2 inches, as described here, in combination with the ExperiGreen Landscape Bed Weed Control program will provide superior weed prevention and control all season long and add to the overall appearance of your valuable landscape beds.
